The Cheltenham and Gloucester Building Society was founded in 1850. Following a decision in 1995 by its members, it converted from a mutual society to a plc and became part of the Lloyds Bank Group.
This demutualisation sparked further deals throughout the market. Although Abbey National had converted and floated on the Stock Exchange six years earlier, it was C&G's conversion that provided the catalyst for a series of demutualisations and acquisitions that took place over the next two years - with Halifax, Woolwich, Northern Rock and Bristol & West all converting from building society status.
As a Mortgage Lender it fits well into the Mortgage Intermediary range of options, providing a wide range of mortgage rates, supporting the need to support those with smaller deposits as well as those with higher amounts of equity.

Your property valuation will not be requested by the C&G until they have seen all the supporting evidence on the application (Such as Payslips, Bank Statements, etc.)
Almost all products allow a 10% Per Annum overpayment without penalty. Please check with us if this is important for your needs.
C&G have higher than average income multiples to base their mortgage lending on. This lender also Credit Scores and checks your credit file, however we have found their credit scoring to be tough especially on higher Loan to Value (LTV) applications. If you have other mortgages this will influence their lending decision as well.

We normally do not charge any fees for our mortgage advice as the majority of mortgage lenders will pay us a procuration fee for our work. We do offer a fee-based service should you prefer, which will cost no more than 0.35% of the mortgage advance. Any mortgage procuration fee would then be rebated to you on completion. Some lenders do not pay a procuration fee, so we will need to charge you a flat fee for our advice and administration, typically £499. We also reserve the right to charge an administration fee for mortgage applications below £100,000, to ensure that we can earn a minimum of £500 from a combination of commission, fees and other income from a mortgage application. Please ask us for more details.
We can deal with our clients using our Online Mortgage Service, by telephone or face to face. By using our Online Mortgage Service you accept that our Independent Mortgage Advice is based upon the information you have provided us.
