History of Aldermore

Aldermore is a new name in British banking and our aim is to take a fresh perspective on markets that have been poorly served by traditional banks in the past.

Our business model is very simple: we raise deposits from consumers and lend to homeowners and small and medium sized businesses throughout the UK. We’re not involved in any high risk banking activities or the marketing of any exotic financial products which have been the cause of problems for so many financial institutions in the past.

We are also one of the most strongly capitalised banks in the UK, with backing provided by AnaCap Financial Partners LLP, a specialist private equity firm and Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners, Morgan Stanley's Private Equity Fund of Funds business.

As a British bank, we are regulated by the Financial Services Authority and are registered under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, which means customers’ savings are protected up to the statutory limit of £50,000 per person. We are also a member of the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

We market all of our residential and buy to let mortgages via professional financial advisers located throughout England and Wales and all mortgage applications are processed and administered from an office in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

We normally do not charge any fees for our mortgage advice as the majority of mortgage lenders will pay us a procuration fee for our work. We do offer a fee-based service should you prefer, which will cost no more than 0.35% of the mortgage advance. Any mortgage procuration fee would then be rebated to you on completion. Some lenders do not pay a procuration fee, so we will need to charge you a flat fee for our advice and administration, typically £499. We also reserve the right to charge an administration fee for mortgage applications below £100,000, to ensure that we can earn a minimum of £500 from a combination of commission, fees and other income from a mortgage application.
